It’s that time of the year. Many of you are already away enjoying balmy days and cultural immersion or planning to travel abroad soon. Whether it’s a lively, carefree European Summer or warm Japanese festivities, this travel guide is worth reading and will make you look like a professional traveller.

Research local culture and etiquette
Before traveling to your destination, learn a little about the culture and social codes. This will make your time easier and more enjoyable, from ordering food to asking for help. You’ll be better able to connect with locals and have a richer experience.
Learn survival phrases
At very least, learn the basic greetings (good morning, good evening and polite phrases like please, thank you, have a nice day and ‘excuse me, do you speak English’ in the language of the country you’re in). Politeness and genuine respect toward the local culture makes you instantly likeable and if you ever need assistance, locals tend to be more than happy to help you. It can’t be overstated how much your effort to show courtesy toward another language, country, culture and way of life is appreciated.
Adapt
Australia is considered a young country that differs from those with a very long history ingrained in their collective identity. This means we share diverse values. Social norms in Australia may be considered strange or un-welcomed overseas and vice versa. For example, and unfortunately, there is a common stereotype in many of our beloved travel destinations that Australian tourists can be ‘loud and have one too many’. This can impact the kind of experience we have and how we're treated. Tip: Adapt. Make a point to notice how locals behave socially, read the room or the setting you find yourself in. You want to slip into the local culture naturally, rather than stand out as a tourist. If you have an attitude of sincere respect for the local way of life, you will find people will go out of their way to help, serve and connect with you. But it always starts with you.
Always seek the most local experience of a city
Do as the locals do. Find out where the locals shop, dine, live and connect. Try to avoid eating in places flocked with tourists. A place gone viral on Tiktok or Instagram doesn't necessarily mean it’s good. Locals will tend not to wait in lines anywhere. Look for smaller side streets to eat with menus not written in English. Ask locals where to go for what you need.
Relax into the lifestyle and allow travel to transform you
Allow yourself to be immersed in another way of life. We believe the richness of experience makes a full life. The time to travel and travel itself are two luxuries we can enjoy. Yet travel has become so easily accessible, we have the privilege to see what the world offers and if we are open, we learn to see with new eyes.
Life-enhancing travel means to ‘empty yourself’. Relax, let go and allow the life of the city to live through you. A rigid traveler carries a rigid mind, that is they bring their past way of living, being and doing into the life of their destination. This usually results in an experience that is not enjoyable, complaints and missing out on the richness of a new way of experiencing the world. Opportunities, synchronicities and wonder are ever present when we travel with openness and anticipation of the best.
Prioritise self-care and wellbeing
Take time for a digital detox
Travel is a subtle nudge to spend less time on screen and more time living. The sunshine, exercise and opportunity for rich human interactions will give your energy levels and dopamine a boost. This will make you feel happier, more centred and harmonious. Studies have consistently proven that the quality of human relationships is one of the highest contributors of longevity!
Bring your grooming products
Our texture powder is feather light weight, effortless to use and convenient for your travels. Travel makes the skin more susceptible to drying so aim to stay moisturised. Proraso Beard Oils which are available in store will add moisture to the skin and hair. These are small and compact to pack in your carry-on. Proraso Pre-shave and shave foam are also easily packed with lids, perfect to maintain your shave rituals whilst traveling. Mr Muk leave-in moisturiser is another great product for to prevent hair from drying and keep your hair feeling strong and healthy.
Lastly, hydration is key for getting the most out of each day, especially for long walks and sightseeing in the sun. Hydrate with water, plus electrolytes and mineral salts.
Get your Haircut
Getting a haircut is one the best ways to experience the local culture. You get a feel for the camaraderie, banter and sense of community among barbers and their clients.Â
Tip: Research their system for cutting so you know what to ask for
For example in Europe millimeters are used not inches. Asking for a number 4 means 4 millimeters which is equivalent to a 1.5 in Australia (approximately). There is a huge difference in the result! As a rule of thumb, whatever clipper length you ask for in Australia, times by 3. This will give you the millimeter length used in Europe. Of course, bringing a photo may help depending on the barber. Always check google reviews, you will find reviews for English speaking barbers if you feel more comfortable communicating in English.
It goes without saying to book your haircut before your voyage so you look sharp and feel refreshed at flight time. We always look forward to the excitement of traveling clients and anticipate the great stories we hear when you return.
Fly Smarter
Australia is far from the rest of the world, so for easier travels on the mind and body we recommend breaking up your long haul flight and staying at least one night in a layover city. Booking flights from Australia to Singapore or Thailand, then booking flights from those countries to your destination is usually more cost effective and enjoyable. (You will generally be able to land business class flights from Singapore at a considerably lower rate than directly from Australia!)
Be present and cultivate self-awareness
Self-awareness is vital while traveling, especially in group settings. It allows for you to better adapt to unexpected situations and makes you less susceptible to (the rare likelihood of) pickpocketing or finding yourself in undesirable circumstances. Tip: The moment you step onto the train or bus, or when you enter a vicinity, always check to see what’s happening around you, who's around you. On public transport or when walking with a large crowd, hold your bag in front of you and ensure all zips and openings are closed. Very small and simple actions to demonstrate awareness will serve you and others you travel with.
As you know, we are traveling in July to be inspired by the latest trends and cultural styles in hair and men’s wellbeing to improve our salon experience. Don’t forget to book your appointment before the 28th June and after the 5th August, to avoid disappointment.
We hope these travel tips have been helpful to you and a pleasure to read. As always, we look forward to welcoming you soon.
