Once our Spanish-sourced fragrances had been selected and prepared in Trieste, we travelled to nearby Opatija, Croatia, to continue our research into fragrance performance.
Known for its distinctive Adriatic microclimate, Opatija offered a relevant setting to study how temperature, humidity and surrounding conditions can influence projection, longevity and the way a fragrance develops on the skin.
We distilled the most important ways to preserve your fragrance, help make it last and perform at its best.

Quick Guide:
Store your fragrance boxed, in a cool, dark and dry place
Apply to clean, hydrated skin for better longevity
Use a lighter application in warm or humid weather
Add an extra spray in cooler weather if needed
Allow 20–30 minutes for the fragrance to develop before reapplying
Preserve the Composition
Keep your fragrance in its original box, in a cool, dark and dry place. Heat, light and repeated temperature changes can accelerate the breakdown of fragrance materials, gradually altering the scent and diminishing some of its finer notes.
Avoid direct sunlight, bathrooms with frequent temperature changes, and particularly the car, where heat can become extreme. Proper storage helps preserve the fragrance closer to the composition originally intended.
Prepare the Skin
Fragrance performs best on clean, hydrated and moisturised skin. Applying an unscented moisturiser first can help improve longevity without interfering with the scent.
For greater staying power, include the chest as an application point, along with the neck and wrists. A light spray to suitable clothing can extend the scent further, while application to the skin allows the composition to develop naturally.
Allow the fragrance to settle without rubbing it into the skin.
Application by Season
In warmer weather, fragrance evaporates more quickly and projects more strongly. Begin with one to two sprays, one to the chest and one to either side of the neck. In humid conditions, a lighter application is usually sufficient.
In cooler weather, fragrance tends to remain closer to the skin and develop more slowly. An additional spray to the chest or wrists can give it greater presence.
Spray from approximately 15–20 cm away for a finer, more even application.
Give It Time Before Reapplying
The first few minutes are only the opening of the fragrance. Wait 20–30 minutes before deciding whether you need another spray. As the heart and base notes develop, the scent becomes fuller and often more noticeable than it seemed at first application.
This also helps avoid over-applying, particularly in warmer or more humid conditions.
Ultimately, knowing how to care for and wear your fragrance, from storage and placement to the conditions in which it is worn, allows you to realise more of its character, depth, projection and lasting presence.
